THE SANCTUARY MODEL
The Sanctuary model is a set of commitments for organizations like Amachi to engage with our community in a more trauma-responsive way to promote healing and cultural change. This model gives us tools to build a community of caring that recognizes and manages trauma first within ourselves and then with our families and the Amachi network as a whole.
Amachi Pittsburgh is excited to announce that we are embarking on a journey to create a more trauma-informed and trauma-responsive culture working with The Sanctuary Institute.
Nonviolence: Being safe outside (physically); inside (emotionally); with others (social); and to do
the right thing (moral)
Emotional Intelligence: Managing our feelings so we don’t hurt ourselves or others
Social Learning: Respecting and sharing our ideas with each other
Democracy: Shared decision making (always have a voice, even if you don't have a vote)
Open Communication: Saying what we mean and not being mean when we say it
Social Responsibility: Together we accomplish more; everyone makes a contribution to the
organizational culture
Growth & Change: Creating hope for our Youth, Families, Mentors, and ourselves
