School-Based Mentoring — meeting kids where they already are.

Amachi Pittsburgh partners with schools across Allegheny County to bring trained, caring mentoring staff directly into their school day — so students directly impacted by familial incarceration get the consistent adult support they need, right where they learn.
How it works

Mentoring inside the school day.

  • Mentoring staff meet with their mentee weekly during a designated period at the school
  • All mentoring staff activities happen on school grounds — no transportation barriers for families
  • Amachi mentoring staff coordinate directly with school counselors and administrators
  • Mentoring staff receives specialized training from the Sanctuary Institute so that youth receive resiliency skills to help combat the effects of familial incarceration, community violence, and/or the social justice system
  • Youth are supported throughout the school year by our Amachi mentoring staff
